A Letter From Alex
Hi! This is a letter from Alex. I am the co-owner of Loki & Friends Wrench Works, a very small mobile automotive mechanic operation. It's just me and my husband. He's my muscle and turns the wrenches while I’m the brains of the operation. I handle marketing, invoicing, booking, pricing, parts, whatever it is that isn't turning a wrench, I'm the one doing it. Not to say that there aren't times when my help is needed out on the field as well. We both come from low-income minority backgrounds so we have a deep understanding of the daily struggles low-income families face. The entire company has been inspired by our dogs as those are our children and their loyalty and love knows no bounds. I am incapable of having kids of my own so I'm looking to take that unused energy and bring it to my community. We believe in genuine honesty and feel there's no longer enough of that in this world anymore. I've always had a passion for working with my hands and when I met my husband I never thought that years later we'd be here with our own little automotive business. We've always talked about it but we’ve finally taken the steps to make it a true reality.
The business model we came up with is to help out our community. I want to be able to bring affordable auto repairs to other people struggling to make it in this world. People like single mothers or the elderly who don't really know what they may need. People who just don't have the funds to pay thousands of dollars at repair shops. People who don't feel comfortable with today's shady salesman techniques that swindle customers just to raise their corporate bottom lines and commissions. We just want to bring honest repair work without breaking the bank.
My own experiences as a service advisor in automotive made me realize how gross and corrupt the industry can be. I can't stand that and I want to change that. There have been so many times other women, single mom, widows, girls who grew up without a dad, all who have told me how comfortable they were because of the honesty and care that I showed them when they had no idea what they were doing or getting. Our business model directly addresses these problems by focusing on:
• Honesty First: No hidden fees, no unnecessary repairs.
• Affordability: Providing safe and essential repairs at fair prices.
• Community Impact: Serving vulnerable groups such as minorities, seniors, and low-income families.
• Family Integrity: As a husband-and-wife minority-owned business, we bring personal commitment and accountability to every repair.
We don't believe in crazy upsells or overwhelming someone with a hundred different things they "need" to do because "maintenance by mileage" said so. We believe in getting to the root of the issue or only providing the maintenance that is currently required (don't let those brakes get metal-to-metal!). Sure, we'll advise customers on things we might see while working on their vehicle but it will be just that—advising that one of these days "X" will need to be done, but it's not urgent and doesn't need to be today. Too often, individuals—especially single mothers, seniors, and families struggling financially—are taken advantage of through aggressive sales tactics, unnecessary upsells, inflated pricing, and overwhelming “maintenance by mileage” checklists. We know there has to be a better way.
Transportation is critical in Louisiana, where public transit options are often limited or unreliable. For many in our community, their vehicle is their lifeline—to get to work, care for family, access healthcare, and get to school. Expensive repairs often force families to make impossible choices between fixing their car or meeting other essential needs like paying rent or eating. Loki & Friends Wrench Works provides a solution by offering accessible, honest, and affordable mobile automotive services that meet people where they are. This is more than a small business—it is a mission to restore trust in auto repair and to provide reliable transportation solutions for working families, especially when they're carrying precious cargo in the backseat. We believe everyone deserves to drive a safe, functional vehicle without having to file for bankruptcy. We want an honest and loyal brand that the people can trust.
